Lonna Schmidt

Lonna Schmidt is a longtime Minnesota community activist. In addition to serving on the Working Partnerships Board of Directors, she serves as the Labor Union Representative on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters and was directly involved in the Labor Bowl for Kids Sake am for 9 years.

The former State Vice President of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW), Lonna is currently working with the Labor Union Women group planning activities for the Minnesota Union Women's Leadership Retreat to be held in the Brainerd area in spring of 2009.

Lonna is certified as a mediator with the Alternative Dispute Resolution of St. Cloud State University and St. Paul. She has been a head election Judge in her community for 15 years, and has worked on numerous political campaigns.

Lonna studied with the U of M Labor Education Service and FMCS (Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services), and at the George Meaney Center for Labor Studies, Anoka Ramsey Community College, and North Hennepin Community College.

Lonna was a member of AFSCME Local 3142 for 28 years and is a former member of AFSCME Council 5. During her time as an AFSCME member, Lonna received the AFL-CIO Bea Kersten Community Services Award and the Mother Jones Girl Scouting Award.

Lonna has a daughter and a 5 year old grandchild. She is a Labor Relations Staff Specialist at the Minnesota Nurses Association and a member of MNASO (Minnesota Nurses Association Staff Organization).
