Our elected officials at the city, county, and state levels are asking to hear from us as they make important decisions about creating jobs and improving our communities. Often, they don’t hear from people who are actually unemployed about how their policies affect real Minnesotans. It’s time to let them know.

The Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation is taking part in a new initiative to reach out to unemployed union members, help provide them with support, and engage them in advocacy efforts.

Wright County’s historic Kreidler Cemetery,  located just north of Montrose, hosts the gravesites of several generations of local residents, including veterans of the U.S. military going back to the Civil War. Over time, however, many of the older flat grave markers were sinking into the ground and becoming overgrown with grass. The voluntary association maintaining the cemetery needed help, the Wright County Labor Council learned.

Delegates to the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation voted June 10 to partner with the U.S. Census Bureau to help ensure a complete count of all Minnesotans during the coming 2010 U.S. Census.

"Everybody work as a team", advised Robert Kidd, Painters Local 386 member, as he directed high school volunteers brandishing paint rollers and paint brushes.

For the second year in a row, skilled union workers organized by the South Suburban Labor Council volunteered to assist Chaska's "Christmas in May" home fix-up event.

Seniors in Coon Rapids got help with spring yard work May 17 from labor volunteers organized by the North Suburban Labor Council.  The Council partnered with the Anoka County Community Action Program's Senior Chores Program to assist seven senior home owners.

Launched in 1994, the annual “Water’s Off” community service program always has seen union plumbers volunteering to repair plumbing for low-income, elderly, and disabled homeowners. This year was a surprise, a pleasant surprise.

Workers at Progress Casting in Plymouth, Minn., represented by the Glass Molders and Pottery International Union (GMP) Local 63B, have been locked out of their jobs since Oct. 27.

Free health screenings, health education sessions, prizes, celebrity guests and fun family activities are all part of the mix at the "Labor Care Health + Benefits Fair" coming Saturday, April 9 from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
