National Volunteer Week continues as we honor a union and one of its members in particular. CWA Local #7250, based at AT&T, demonstrates a commitment to volunteer service in our community that is longstanding and deep.

As a part of their Main Streets efforts in September 1, Nurses and community members collected 73 pounds of food and 20 boxes of school supplies at a Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) event in Woodbury.

In an effort to give back to the community, members of Branch 9 of the National Association of Letter Carriers presented Melanie Sanco of the Minneapolis Public Schools with school supplies and cash donations at the Lowry Post Office on Wednesday, October 12th, 2011.

Wright County’s historic Kreidler Cemetery, located just north of Montrose, hosts the gravesites of several generations of local residents, including veterans of the U.S. military going back to the Civil War. Over time, however, many of the older flat grave markers were sinking into the ground and becoming overgrown with grass. The voluntary association maintaining the cemetery needed help, the Wright County Labor Council learned.

Delegates to the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation voted June 10 to partner with the U.S. Census Bureau to help ensure a complete count of all Minnesotans during the coming 2010 U.S. Census.

For the second year in a row, skilled union workers organized by the South Suburban Labor Council volunteered to assist Chaska's "Christmas in May" home fix-up event.

Seniors in Coon Rapids got help with spring yard work May 17 from labor volunteers organized by the North Suburban Labor Council. The Council partnered with the Anoka County Community Action Program's Senior Chores Program to assist seven senior home owners.
