Seniors in Coon Rapids get labor volunteers' help with spring yard work

Seniors in Coon Rapids got help with spring yard work May 17 from labor volunteers organized by the North Suburban Labor Council.  The Council partnered with the Anoka County Community Action Program's Senior Chores Program to assist seven senior home owners.

About 25 union volunteers, including rank and file members and union leaders, spent the day raking, mowing, and doing other chores for seniors unable to do the work themselves.  Volunteers - some with their families - came from CWA, Education Minnesota, Letter Carriers, Operating Engineers, Painters, and Postal Workers.  After working, Volunteers met for a barbecue at Lions Creek Park, where Council chair Victor Ruzynski, Operating Engineers Local 49, grilled cheese-burgers.  The project was a first community service project for the Council.
