Seek the services of a credit or debt counselor. Here are some options: Lutheran Social Services: Financial Counseling Services/Consumer Credit Counseling Services/Get Checking. (888) 577-2227: 8:30 am - 5 pm Monday -Friday. Some programs have evening hours Monday - Thursday by appointment. Eligibility varies with service provided. Bridge to Benefits: Use the online screening tool, www.bridgetobenefits.org , to see if you qualify for any number of emergency assistance programs. Fare for All: this reduced-cost food program is offered at several locations and can help reduce your grocery budget while offering nutritious food. www.fareforall.org Food Shelves: There are several food shelves around the Twin Cities that can help you with groceries. Food Shelf eligibility is governed by where you live. Call United Way 2-1-1 for a food shelf in your area.
ENERGY RESOURCES:
UNITED WAY 2-1-1 The POWER On program is designed to make electric bills more affordable and to encourage customers to make consistent payments. The program provides Xcel electric bill discounts to low and fixed income Minnesotans who receive Energy Assistance To apply for the POWER On program, you must first receive Energy Assistance. Find out if you are eligible for Energy Assistance by calling the Energy Assistance number if you want to be sure you qualify: Energy Assistance Hotline 1-800-657-3710 After you receive Energy Assistance, you can apply for POWER On. Your eligibility and monthly discount will be based on your income and your electric costs. This program is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
